Bukovinian State Medical University (BSMU) is one of the oldest and the largest higher educational institutions established in Chernivtsi city in Ukraine. It is a fully governmental multistructural educational institution established in 1944 and accredited by many educational programs on higher levels. From 1944 to 2021, the university has trained more than 30,000 specialists in 6 faculties and 49 educational departments. More than 5,800 students are currently studying in the university out of which 1,800 students are International students from 32 countries. Bukovinian State Medical University offers all courses in English language for foreign students since 2004.
Bukovinian State Medical University has a unique, professionally talented, well-respected teaching staff that includes:103 doctors of science, 422 candidates of science, 80 professors, 245 associate professors, 1 senior scientific research assistant, 16 honored doctors of Ukraine, 2 educationalists, 2 Laureates of the state Prize in the field of science and technology,166 staff members out of which 54 are first-grade doctors and 48 are second-grade doctors, 32 staff members from clinical departments of the university and health department.

MBBS at Bukovinian State Medical University
Faculty of “General Medicine” for foreign students was started on September 1, 2011 and since then the university is training students to be successful specialists and medical practitioners of the world. Since 2016, Bukovinian State Medical University has also started Master’s degree in Medicine. The university has been training foreign students since 1996 in various faculties and departments and since 2004, English has been chosen as the official language of instruction for foreign students.
Foreign students of Bukovinian State Medical University have demonstrated stably high knowledge and skills according to the information of the Ministry of health of Ukraine testing Center, based on the results of the ministerial license exams “KROK 1 and KROK 2 Medicine”
The faculty of “General Medicine” follows ECTS system that is a credit system in which students are marked in their academics. Bukovinian State Medical University has 15 educational buildings, a modern library with an ocean of collection of books of educational, scientific, medical literature and fiction written by International authors, an ultra-modern simulation center, university dental care, educational productive chemist, sports complex, the Palace of culture and rest “Academichny”: a theatre, summer camp “Zdorovya”.
The university has 33 municipal and regional medical establishments used as clinical departments for patients as well as students to learn and hands-on practice or clinical rotations. 33 medical institutions of the university include 19 regional subordinations, 10 city subordination, 2 schools in Chernivtsi and 2 specialized health care institutions. The total beds are more than 4000 units.
All university buildings have lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories equipped with modern technical innovations for better education and scientific work.
In 2019, the centre of simulation of medicine and innovation of technologies was established at the university for better learning and mastering practical skills and knowledge of students, interns and medical practitioners. The simulation centre is equipped up to date with robotic simulators of adults, newborns, obstetrical and gynecology, training devices for mastering skills of auscultation, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, giving injections, etc. These simulators help doctors to improve their tactics and skills. Usually, simulation training is held on the basis of the center for future doctors involving standard patients.
Facilities Provided By Bukovinian State Medical University
Bukovinian State Medical University has appropriate facilities created for all the students. Campus is well-equipped with 8 hostels, 15 educational buildings and 33 hospitals and all the buildings have reading halls, libraries, computer rooms with medical eBooks and all other facilities to live a good life. A palace called “Academichny” has been established for students’ creativity and talents, holding several meetings and concerts. The palace has a house of museum of history and medicine and pharmacy.
For students interested in sports, a sport complex is established in the university with different kinds of sports like basketball, volleyball, table tennis, wrestling, powerlifting, dumbbell sports, track and field athletics. The university has an arrangement for athletes to rest, rehabilitation and vocational training during working days, preventing activities targeting sports, including the organization of sport tourism.
The university library with large reading rooms and affiliates in the hostels, which has more than 11,000 volumes of methodological and educational literature in English and is updated annually with new editions of reputable world publishing houses for foreign students.
Indian Food is also available for students cooked by Indian Chefs in the hostels.
Bukovinian State Medical University has 8 hostels designed according to the comfort and good standard of living for students. Most of the hostels are located within the walking distance of main educational buildings. Foreign students stay in hostel no. 2,4,5,6 and 7. Separate girls and boys hostel is provided by the university.
All hostels are well-equipped with adequate living conditions like beds, pillow, study tables, wardrobes, etc. A peaceful and quiet study room is also available in all students for students. All hostels have printing rooms, laundry rooms. There are isolation wards available in hostels for students who fall sick and to prevent spreading of infections.
Hostels have canteens with food preferences of foreign students like Indian food. These canteens are also used for celebrating small cultures and religious festivals of foreign countries and their students.
Hostel No. 5 has a library containing a reading room and more than 6000 manuals of scientific and methodical literature in English written by International authors.
Security of students in all hostels is ensured by CCTV cameras 24×7 and a security guard. All Hostels are safe and a peaceful loving place designed for the home-like comfort of all students.
Student Life At Bukovinian State Medical University
The Students of this university have various organizations in order to fulfill students’ rights, duties and facilities. Various students’ clubs and societies are formed to encourage and organize various events. Students can participate in various arts and crafts and there is a studio built for arts, dance, singing and theatre. All state and country holidays and festivals are celebrated and concerts or events are organized by the university in which all students can participate in various departments.
Every Year an art week is specially organized for students in which various forms of students’ talents are shown and performed. Cultural events like Educationalist Day, International Students’ Day, New Year party for the students and staff, Christmas carols, St. Valentine’s Day, the International Peace and Women’s Rights Day, Graduation, Health Worker Day, etc. are all celebrated with great enthusiasm in the university.
Sports events are also held in the university and dedicated to all the athletes on the Athlete’s day of Ukraine, traditional sport festivals, Various competitions are organized between different faculties, tournaments between the departments and hostels. Teachers of Physical education train students for various events and tournaments. Students also participate in sports camp in summers and spend their holiday training in different sports and entertainments.
There is a Students’ Scientific Society that promotes research and helps students to improve their projects and science. Students participate in various science forums and conferences, Olympiads of different subjects, scientific exhibitions. This Scientific society establishes international contacts, cooperates with educational and research institutions, public and governmental organizations in Ukraine and other countries.
Students of Bukovinian State Medical University holds a conference and elect a students’ executive. Henceforth, this student’s university council considers the account of students’ activities, their power, rights, etc. The Students’ self-government at the university operates on the level of the student’s group, course, faculty, dormitory, University.
The main tasks of the students’ self- government involve ensuring and protecting the rights and interests of students, ensuring of students’ duties and promoting educational, scientific (research) and students’ creative activities, promoting the creation of appropriate conditions for students’ lodging and recreation, promotion of students’ clubs, societies, associations, clubs of interests, organization of cooperation with students from other universities and youth organizations participating in the issues of international students’ exchange and making polls among the students.

Entrance Exam at Bukovinian State Medical University
Bukovinian State Medical University has an entrance exam or students who want to pursue MBBS from the university under the faculty of “General Medicine”. After reaching the university in Ukraine, students must pass this entrance exam which is a MCQ exam based on pre-medical subjects, Chemistry and Biology.
Students do not need to prepare separately or learn new things for this exam as it is based on the basic 11th and 12th syllabus of science that students pass during their boards. Qualifying this exam is compulsory, as only after qualifying students’ will start their MBBS course classes.

Bukovinian State Medical University is situated in the Chernivtsi city in Western Ukraine. Chernivtsi city is situated on the upper course of the Prut River and it is the administrative center of Chernivtsi Oblast.
